Making changes to your car insurance online

Making changes to your car insurance online

You can make a number of changes to your Policy Expert car insurance through your online customer account, including changing your address, adding or changing a driver, adding a private registration and updating how you use your car.

Keeping your details up to date means you can be confident your policy reflects your circumstances now. It can also help things go more smoothly if you need to make a claim. If important information is wrong or you don’t tell us when something changes, it could affect your cover or mean we can’t pay a claim in full.

Keep your car insurance up to date

A lot can change over the 12 months of your car insurance policy. You might move home, need someone else to drive your car or start using it differently.

When something changes, make sure you update your policy so the information we hold about you, your drivers and your car stays accurate. Some changes can also affect the price or terms of your insurance. We’ll let you know if that’s the case when you make the change.

Change your address

Moving home? You can update your address through your online account. Where you live and where you usually keep your car can affect your insurance, so make sure you update these details when you move.

Add a driver

If someone else needs to drive your car, you can add them to your policy through your online account. We’ll ask for some details about the person you want to add. Adding another driver can affect your insurance, depending on their details, and we’ll let you know what the change means for your policy.

Change a driver

If the drivers on your policy change, you can update them online too. You might need to remove someone or replace one driver with another. Make sure you update your policy before the new driver needs to be covered. Changing a driver can affect your insurance, depending on their details.

Add a private registration

If you’ve added a private registration to your car, remember to update your insurance too. You can change the registration number through your online account so the details we hold match your car.

Change how you use your car

The way you use your car can change. For example, you might start using it for business as well as your usual journeys. If that happens, update your policy so it reflects how you use your car now. A change in use can affect your insurance, and we’ll let you know what it means for your policy.

Will I have to pay to make a change?

There’s a £30 admin fee when you make a change after your policy has started. Some changes can also make your insurance price go up or down. Changing your registration number won’t affect your premium, but changes such as moving home, adding or changing a driver, or changing how you use your car can.

If a change brings your price down, how you get the difference back depends on how you pay. If you paid for your policy in full, we’ll refund it to your card. If you pay by Direct Debit, the reduction will be spread across your remaining payments.
