We all know how important it is to have good buildings and contents insurance, so that if the worst should happen and your home is broken into or floods, then you can claim on your insurance policy and get your house back to normal. But as well as these major events which prompt people to claim, a recent survey by Cornish Mutual Insurance reveals some very odd reasons for claiming indeed.
Call the Fire Brigade
A fire in the home is no laughing matter, and having your house go up in flames is distressing and also costly if you have not got proper insurance cover. One man in the West Country didn’t take this into account though when he spotted a loose thread hanging from a curtain, and decided the best way to deal with it was by burning it off with his lighter. Unsurprisingly, he set his house alight. And the even worse news is that a deliberate act such as this usually means you can’t claim on your insurance policy anyway.
The Dog Ate My Homework
We’ve all blamed the dog for homework disasters in the past, but one Cornish policyholder took things a step further by claiming for a hearing aid which his dog had swallowed. With top of the range hearing aids costing up to £2,000, the claim was a substantial one. The policyholder claimed that his hearing aid had been in his pocket along with dog biscuits and they had got muddled up. It’s not known whether the company paid out for this claim.
Don’t Try This At Home
Reading stories of other policyholders’ incompetence or weird claims may raise a chuckle, but it also serves as a reminder to all of us to make sure that we do have adequate cover for events such as fire or accidental damage.
